Fires, diving into the demolition
9/13/2021 (Permalink)
After a fire there are many things to get done. What most people do not think about is the water mitigation after the fire fighters leave. After removing all salvageable items from the home removing wet materials is our next priority. Removing wet materials decreases chances for microbial growth.
Depending on the size of the fire will determine the length of mitigation and demolition needed before things can even think to begin rebuilding. If there is significant damage it is not uncommon to remove all of the drywall and insulation in the home. This is done because they are porous surfaces and they absorbed the smoke from the fire leaving a very specific odor. After drywall and insulation are removed we take sponges and wipe down all wood studs and framing. This removes an extra layer of the soot from the wood so it can be sealed to help eliminate that odor. This process can take quite some time.
Stay tuned for more of this process.
